Mohammad B. Shadmand (S’09–M’15-SM’20) received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University, College Station, USA, in 2015. From 2015 to 2016, he was an Instructor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Texas A&M University, College Station, USA. From 2016 to 2017, he was a Research Engineer with the Renewable Energy and Advanced Power Electronics Research Laboratory, College Station, USA. From 2017 to 2020, he was an Assistant Professor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Kansas State University, Manhattan, USA. Since 2020, he is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Illinois at Chicago, USA. His current research interests include advanced model predictive control, grid-tied power electronics interfaces with advance functionalities, grid situational awareness, and control of smart microgrid systems.
He has published more than 85 journal and conference papers, and his research grants and industrial projects are backed by more than $9 million in funding from sources such as the U.S. Department of Energy, the National Science Foundation, and Qatar National Research Fund.
Dr. Shadmand was awarded Michelle Munson Serban Simu Keystone Research Scholar, Kansas State University in 2017. He was awarded the 2019 IEEE Myron Zucker Faculty-Student Research Grant. He has served as Technical Program Co-Chair of the 2019 IEEE Smart Grid & Renewable Energy Conference. He has served as lead Technical Program Advisor of the 2020 First IEEE Kansas Power & Energy Conference (KPEC). He serves as Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Industry Application and IET Renewable Power Generation.

PhD Students
Silvanus D’silva is from India, born in Mumbai, India in 1993. He received his Bachelors in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from University of Mumbai, India (MU). He worked as an external engineer for Rockwell Automation Inc., Milwaukee, WI from 2014 to 2017 where he worked as a Systems Engineer. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Kansas State University. He has joined PEAS Research Group in January 2018. He was an intern at Typhoon HIL, Inc in summer 2019.
His research interest include areas of Power Electronics and Power Distribution systems.

Ahmad Khan
Ahmad Khan (S’17) received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering from Qatar University, Doha, Qatar in 2014 and 2017, respectively. From 2018 to 2020, he was a Ph.D. student in Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Kansas State University, Manhattan, USA. Since 2020, he is pursuing the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at University of Illinois at Chicago, USA. Mr. Khan received the Qatar University outstanding thesis award in 2017. He received the best paper award from IEEE IES in the 12th CPE-POWERENG and the 2nd SGRE conferences in 2018 and 2019, respectively. He is co-recipient of the “2019 IEEE Foundation Industry Application Society Myron-Zucker Grant”.

Matt Baker was born in St. Peters Missouri in 1996. He earned his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Rockhurst University in May of 2018. He was a Ph.D. student at Kansas State University from 2018-2020. Since 2020, he is pursuing the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at University of Illinois at Chicago, USA. His research interests include GaN based power electronics.

Amin Yousefzadeh Fard
Amin Yousefzadeh Fard received his B.Sc. degree from Azarbaijan Shahid Madani University, Tabriz, Iran in 2011, and obtained his M.Sc. degree with “Second Rank Honor” from University of Tabriz, Tabriz, Iran in 2014, both in Electrical Power Engineering. From 2014 to 2018, he was with Roshdiyeh Higher Education Institute (RHEI) as a lecturer, the supervisor of Electrical Machinery and High Voltage Laboratories, and the educational manager of the Engineering Faculty. He was a Ph.D. student at K-State University from 2018-2020. Since 2020, he is pursuing the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at University of Illinois at Chicago, USA. His research interests include Renewable Energy Systems like Photovoltaic Systems and Wind Turbines, Power Electronics, Distributed Generation, and Power Quality.

Muhammad Farooq Umar
Muhammad Farooq Umar was born in Bahawalpur, Pakistan in 1991. He received the B.Sc. degree in Electrical engineering from Lahore University of Management Sciences, Lahore, Pakistan, in 2014. He has done Masters in Electrical Power Engineering from Department of Electrical Power Engineering, U.S. Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Energy, National University of Sciences and Technology, Pakistan in 2018. His research interests are control of power electronics interfaces and renewable energy. He was a Ph.D. student in Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at Kansas State University from 2019-2020. Since 2020, he is pursuing the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at University of Illinois at Chicago, USA. Currently he is Fulbright Grantee 2019.

Anas Karaki
Anas Karaki received the B.S degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ), Doha, Qatar, in 2016 and the Master of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Texas A&M University (TAMU), College Station, TX, USA, in 2020. He is currently pursuing the Ph.D. Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Illinois at Chicago. He has joined IPEG research laboratory in 2020.
His research interests include microgrids, power electronics, parallel-inverter operation, power sharing between inverter-based grids, droop control, islanding detection and frequency restoration.

Zhen Zhang was born in 1998 and raised in both China and Canada. He received his B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from Kansas State University in May of 2019. Currently, He is pursuing M.S. degree in PEAS Research Group at Kansas State University. Zhen joined the PEAS Research Group in October of 2018. His interests are in grid modernization and renewable energy.

Brevann Nun
Brevann Nun was born in Geneva, NE is 1997. He received his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering in December 2019 from Kansas State University. Currently, He is pursuing a M.S. degree at Kansas State University. Brevann joined the IPEG research group in September 2019 and his interests include power electronics and renewable energy systems.

Hassan Althuwaini
Hassan Althuwaini earned his B.S degree in Electrical Engineering from Kansas State University in 2019. He was a research assistant at JKLab.org from 2018 to 2019. He joined the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Jan 2021 to continue his M.S studies under the supervision of Prof. Mohammad Shadmand. His research interests include Smart Micro-Grids, Energy storage system, Characterization of SiC and GaN Power Devices.

Former Graduate Student
Mitchell Easley was born in Shawnee, KS in 1995. He received his B.Sc. and M.S. Degrees in Electrical Engineering in May 2018 and August 2020 at Kansas State University. He has joined IPEG (former PEAS Research Group) in December 2017. He was an intern at ABB Corporate Research Center in summer 2019. He has joined Raytheon Technologies in August 2020.
His research interests are power electronics and model predictive control.

Former Undergraduate Students
Dalton Hahn was born in Topeka, KS in 1996. He started at Kansas State University in 2014 and will complete his B.Sc. in Computer Science from Kansas State University in May 2018. He joined PEAS Research Group in Fall 2017. He plans to continue his education for a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Kansas starting Fall 2018. His interests include cyber security, privacy, and cyber physical systems.

Zac Stower
Zac Stower was born in Gladstone, MO in 1997. He will receive his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering Dec 2018 at Kansas State University, after which, he will work toward his M.Sc. degree at Kansas State University starting Jan 2019. Zac joined PEAS Research Group in Aug 2018. His research interests are power electronics and grid adaptation for alternative energy.
